Using a CO2 laser, the gold standard in facial resurfacing, the SmartXide Dot machine removes a customized pattern of dots and not the entire skin surface, unlike other CO2 lasers. What also sets SmartXide Dot apart from other treatments is that it has no down time and patients can apply make-up immediately afterward. An added benefit is that a patient’s skin will tighten up to 20 percent and can actually be noticed during the procedure. Additionally, wrinkle reduction, acne scar reduction and skin damage removal (sun spots, brown spots, redness), can be done using the SmartXide Dot on the entire face—including eyelids and only topical anesthetic is needed for the treatment. Before and After
How does Dot Therapy compare to traditional laser resurfacing? Skin heals much faster with Dot Therapy than traditional laser resurfacing. In the traditional method, a laser beam treats the target area, as one would expect. But the Dot Therapy is a more precise treatment, splitting the laser beam into fine micro beams that treat only certain zones within the target area. Most patients can be treated in single session. Patients with deep scars, severe facial creases or severe pigment changes may require additional treatments in localized areas. How does SmartXide Dot Therapy work? SmartXide is a carbon dioxide (CO2) fractional laser device. CO2 lasers are considered to be among the most powerful on the market, capable of incredibly favorable results. The deeply-penetrating light associated with CO2 lasers typically cause side-effects such as pain, crusting and swelling that lasts for several weeks. These side-effects are reduced, however, with the Dot Therapy technology, with the same great results associated with CO2 lasers. What skin conditions can it be used for? SmartXide Dot Therapy is FDA approved for facial resurfacing and tightening the skin. Specifically, the treatment has been used successfully to treat fine lines and wrinkles, skin aging, sun damage, age spots, brown spots, crow’s feet/laughter lines, dark circles under the eyes, mottled or patchy skin, freckles, hyper-pigmentation, melasma, sagging skin, keloid scars, acne, acne scars, pores, and rosacea. Does it hurt? The worst you can expect is a mild stinging sensation that lasts a fraction of a second when the laser is fired. Compared to traditional laser resurfacing, Dot Therapy presents a dramatic reduction in any pain it causes. In fact, it is safe enough for use anywhere on the face, including the eyes and around the mouth. It can also be used on the neck, chest, hands, forearms, and knees. Are there any side-effects? You may feel a mild sunburn-like sensation, followed by temporary mild discomfort for up to an hour after treatment. During the 2-7 days following the procedure, you may experience some skin redness, similar to sunburn. Swelling is usually minimal, and lasts for just two to three days. In the next stage of the healing process, the skin may become dry and start flaking, symptoms that are generally improved by applying moisturizers and post-treatment creams, which we supply. After the therapy, the skin may be sensitive to sunlight, so we recommend that patients use a sun block with SPF 30+ for several months after having a SmartXide Dot Therapy laser treatment. How quickly will I see results? With most clients, some skin tightening is noticed immediately. Most clients see an improvement in the color of pigmented lesions and spots after just one session, though there is significant improvement after two. Since the laser also stimulates collagen production, one should continue to see improvements for up to six months after your final session. Are the improvements permanent? Any changes in the skin that occur as a result of the SmartXide Dot Therapy Laser treatment are permanent. However, the tightening effects gradually diminish over the natural course of a lifetime. Smoking and sun exposure can cause the effects to fade more quickly.
